The Special Investigative Unit of RJN Investigations, Inc has been notified by the Orange County District Attorney’s office that a former Westminster Police Officer has been charged with 15 felonies based upon a formal fraud referral. In this case, the claimant alleged a date of injury going back to March 2022 for multiple injuries suffered as the result of an altercation while making an arrest. As the police agency could not accommodate the claimant’s physical restrictions, she began to receive TTD benefits. During the claim, the claimant was subsequently videotaped dancing at the Stagecoach country music festival, skiing, running 5k races, and going to Disneyland all while claiming to be completely disabled due to her work-related injury and collecting benefits.
In compliance with the regulations set forth by the California Department of Insurance, RJN Investigations formally filed this case with their Fraud Division as well as with the Orange County District Attorney’s Office. Upon completion of the criminal investigation, the claimant was formally charged with nine felony counts of making a fraudulent statement to obtain compensation, six felony counts of making a fraudulent insurance benefit claim, and one felony enhancement of committing an aggravated while collar crime over $100,000. She faces a maximum sentence of 22 years in state prison if convicted on all counts. If convicted of a felony, will forfeit any pension credits she accrued back to the date the felony was committed.
The former officer’s stepfather, a licensed attorney, has also been charged with two felonies for conspiring with his stepdaughter to orchestrate the fraudulent workers’ compensation scheme.
