The Special Investigative Unit of RJN Investigations, Inc. was formally notified of the sentencing of Dr. Wendall Street. In this case, the RJN SIU level investigation established evidence indicating that Dr. Street was illegally providing opiates to a school district employee who had filed a workers’ compensation claim. In accordance with the regulations set forth by the California Department of Insurance, the RJN SIU formally filed this case with their Fraud Division as well as with the District Attorney’s Office and State Medical Board. The case was subsequently accepted by the Medical Board and in the course of their investigation, they used an undercover investigator who was able to purchase opiates from Dr. Street for cash payments. The investigation by the Medical Board and DEA showed that Dr. Street prescribed 7,769 prescriptions for narcotics, including 437,000 doses of Oxycodone from November 2012 through November 2013. Dr. Street subsequently pled guilty and was recently sentenced to 18 months in prison. His medical license was also revoked.
