The Special Investigative Unit of RJN Investigations, Inc. was notified of the successful prosecution of a claimant who was employed as a Farm Laborer in Kern County. The claimant in this case alleged to have sustained injuries to her left hand, left wrist, left forearm, left elbow and left shoulder as a result of an incident that occurred in June of 2015. A surveillance investigation was subsequently authorized, and the claimant was observed active and conducting activities that she testified during a deposition she was unable to do. As such, a criminal referral was completed by RJN SIU and submitted to both the Kern County District Attorney as well as the California Department of Insurance Fraud Division in 2018. The case was accepted for investigation by the CDI office in 2019 and an updated surveillance investigation was also completed by RJN in 2020 in which additional surveillance footage was obtained to aid their office with their continued investigation. On May 26th, 2023, our office was advised that claimant was arrested and charged with two counts of Section Code 550(B)(3) and two counts of Section Code1871.4(A)(1), both felonies. Since charges being filed, the claimant attended multiple hearings and in her most recent criminal hearing the claimant pleaded Nolo Contendere to an added count of Section Code 32 (Accessory) and all other counts being dismissed. As part of the plea, the claimant has now been ordered to repay restitution in the amount of $72,901.82.
